Judging Othello’s constantly changing behavior in the play, it is evident as to why this syndrome of “delusional jealousy” (Duell) is named after him. Othello syndrome is a psychiatric condition in which one is paranoid, to an unreasonable degree, of his or her partner committing an unfaithful act. The play “Othello” suggests Othello himself possessed the symptoms of this syndromes, as he murdered his beloved Desdemona out of jealousy triggered by Iago’s manipulation.

We live in a society in which majority of citizens value security over privacy. They entrust the government with their privacy for the sake of stopping unknown threats such as terrorists. I find it is rather reasonable for the government to have access to personal information. This access, however, should only be allowed to the government in the conditions of necessity and acceptable reasoning. Citizens should be allowed to know precisely when and why their personal information is being searched. The government should not be allowed free right of access to personal information without valid reasoning.

In his open letter, Stephen Fry revealed his honest opinions on Russian discrimination
against gays/lesbians in a very detailed manner. The issue he is speaking of is very
important because Russia is currently scheduled to host the 2014 Olympics. The
Russian government is very offended by the thought of homosexuality acceptance.
This discriminatory behavior threatens the rights of many gay or lesbian
athletes who will be taking part in the 2014 Sochi
Olympics.

I generally agree with the tone of Stephen Fry’s open letter. He
addresses the issue in a very serious manner. If Russia refuses to accept gays
and lesbians entirely as equals during the Olympics, then it would be necessary
to voluntarily hold it in a different suitable country. It is not fair for gay
and lesbian athletes to boycott the Sochi Olympics out of their fear of safety
while other athletes go on to compete and fulfill their long-awaited goals. All
athletes should be able to compete on equal grounds and conditions.
